La Universidad Salvadoreña “Alberto Masferrer” fue fundada el 24 de noviembre de 1979 por un grupo visionario de profesionales en diferentes áreas, siendo la primera universidad privada que incursionó en el área de la salud, con carreras como Cirugía Dental, Medicina y Cirugía y Química y Farmacia-Biología entre otras.-.

En esa época las instalaciones de la institución se encontraban en diversos locales.
Las oficinas administrativas se ubicaban en el Edificio 2000 del Boulevard de Los Héroes, y los locales para aulas en instalaciones en el Centro de Gobierno y Calle Rubén Darío.
Las Clínicas Dentales para las prácticas de los estudiantes se encontraban en el desaparecido Edificio Rubén Darío.-.

A principios de la década de los 80, la universidad traslada todas sus instalaciones al local actual ubicado entre la Alameda Juan Pablo II y la 19 Avenida Norte en San Salvador, las cuales se han ido ampliando con el correr de los años.
En ellas se encuentran las oficinas administrativas, diversos edificios con aulas y laboratorios de avanzada, y un Auditórium con capacidad para 300 personas; igualmente se encuentran las Clínicas Dentales, Unidad de Ultrasonografía y Clínica Veterinaria, todas para pacientes de escasos recursos.
También se cuenta con un Laboratorio de Control de Calidad debidamente acreditado, así como con tres amplios parqueos para docentes y estudiantes.-.

En el Valle de Zapotitán la universidad cuenta con un Campo Experimental para Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia en un terreno de 13 manzanas de extensión para las prácticas de los estudiantes.
También se ubican en dicho terreno clínicas del área de la salud y asistencia jurídica para la atención de los pobladores de la zona.-.
