Detailed description is Research study at the University of Minnesota assessing if the type of cigarette affects your ability to quit smoking.
We are looking for:.
African American smokers ages 18-64 who are interested in quitting smoking and are in generally good health.

What is the purpose of the study?.
The purpose of this study is to determine if different types of cigarettes affect how difficult it is to quit smoking..
.
How often are the clinic visits?.
There are a total of 12 visits, most of these occur within the first 3 months, with a follow-up visit at 4 months, and a final visit approximately 7 months after you have started the study..
.
What will I be doing in the study?.
During the first part of the study we would ask that you either continue to smoke the type to cigarette you are currently smoking, or that you switch to a different type of cigarette that would be assigned to you during the study.
After approximately one month, you will be asked to quit smoking entirely.
At your clinic visits you will complete questionnaires, do a breath test, provide urine, and return a completed log of your tobacco use..

Will I be compensated?.
You will receive cigarettes during the part of the study which occurs before you quit smoking.
If you participate in all of the study visits and complete all required study procedures you will receive up to $390.
All payments are made as pre-paid Visa gift cards..
