Der U-Bahnhof Friesenplatz ist eine Station der Linien 3, 4, 5, 12 und 15 der Stadtbahn Köln.
Er ist ein Kreuzungsbahnhof zwischen zwei U-Bahn-Tunneln: der Verlängerung des Innenstadttunnels Richtung Ehrenfeld und dem Ringtunnel, der um die Kölner Innenstadt führt.LageDer U-Bahnhof liegt unter dem gleichnamigen Friesenplatz, der eigentlich aus zwei Plätzen besteht: einem im Westen an der Venloer Straße und einem im Osten an der Friesenstraße.
Zwischen den beiden Plätzen liegt der Hohenzollernring.Neben dem heutigen, östlichen U-Bahnhofzugängen an der Ringstraße, in der Höhe des Friesenwall und der Friesenstraße befand sich bis zum Jahr 1882 das Friesentor.
Es war eines der Burgtore in der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer Kölns, das auf der Römerstraße nach Venlo den Weg nach Nordwesten eröffnete.
Unter dieser Straße verkehren jetzt die U-Bahnlinien 3 und 4 bis Bocklemünd/Mengenich.GeschichteDie Station mit ihren U-Bahn-Tunneln wurde in zwei Bauabschnitten erstellt und eröffnet.
Zuvor wurden die jetzt unterirdisch befahrenen Strecken als Straßenbahnlinien betrieben.
