Detailed description is Auction and Real Estate Company Tri County Auction & Banquet Center.
Serving Macoupin, Jersey, Greene, Morgan, Madison, Menard and Cass Counties .
Local business people John and Paulette Colson have recently completed the last stage of their restoration and remodel of the Tri County Auction & Banquet Center, their 6,800+ square foot auction and banquet facility located at the intersecting point of South Main Street and State Highway 267 North and State Highway 111 in Medora, Illinois..
In the fall of 2007, they purchased the deteriorated property with the vision of creating a facility that would service the surrounding farming communities with farmers’ market and estate auctions.
With the vast expense in restoring the property they decided it best to tackle the project in three stages.
The first concentration of effort was to have the ability to hold the auctions in an enclosed facility.
The building lacked electrical, plumbing, heat or air.
After many months of repairing the basic features, they opened their doors with a much welcomed response from consignors and buyers from all parts of Illinois and Missouri.
.
John and Paulette are licensed auctioneers in the State of Illinois.
John has 30 years auctioneering experience, beginning at age 10, when he attended weekly cattle auctions with his father.
John soon perfected his clear and proficient chant.
His warm personality and comical way of involving the audience makes the auction an entertaining and relaxing experience for bidders, involving everyone which makes for a good sale.
.
Paulette is also a licensed real estate broker in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Florida since 1990.
Combined, they bring over 50 years of experience and the history of completion of several hundred auctions and real estate transactions ranging from a few thousand to multi-million dollar estates.
.
John’s hometown and lifelong residency prior to relocating to the area was Petersburg, IL.
In 2006, he and Paulette opened JR Colson & Assoc., LLC Auction Center in Chandlerville, IL.
After several years of commuting to the area for the timber logging, the couple decided to relocate their businesses and purchase a home in Brighton.
As auctioneers and broker, John and Paulette are licensed to do appraisals and or broker’s opinions for real estate properties.
Another area of expertise with the liquidation of farmland and or timber is John’s ability to adequately appraise the value.
John is a licensed timber buyer in the State of Illinois since the early 1980’s.
Their company Colson Timber Acquisitions is able to evaluate your timber for sale and or establish a market to sell at auction and or the real estate which the timber stands on..
Tri County Auction.
Twice monthly, for the last several years, the auction center has sold by auction many estate and business liquidations, antiques, farm equipment, autos, guns, coins, artifacts, goats, sheep, llamas, and thousands of small animals- chickens, rabbits, roosters, peacocks, other kinds of fowl and, eggs, produce, plants, etc.
The auction has become a socializing event for regular attendees.
.
The auction business plans to concentrate more on combining multiple smaller estates, to provide a sit-down gallery-type auction atmosphere.
Updates are always posted at www.auctionzip.com ID #4366 or watch the local papers for the sale bills..
The company’s philosophy is, “Have gavel, will travel”- to your location or their beautiful new facility.
They are willing, ready and able to provide you with the means to clear out those unwanted items, antiques, crowded attics and basements, etc.
They want to earn your business and referrals with your real estate, estate liquidations, antiques, guns, coins, artifacts, collectibles, machinery or other farm related items auctions..
Banquet Center.
In fall of 2009 construction began on the new café.
With timber from their company, Colson Timber Acquisitions, they were able to mill the logs and complete the interior with beautiful white oak plank walls.
To complete the look the ceilings were finished out with corrugated steel ceiling panels.
Their design concept was to make you feel like you were in an old farm house kitchen, complete with antique stove and relics of days gone by.
Patron’s comments have been amazement at the transformation, as many recall the “old restaurant” that was housed in the building many years ago.
There was nothing left of the old restaurant so a new café was built from the floor up.
The café offers home cooked items during auctions that change seasonally.
Future plans could include opening the café on a full time basis with a nightly dinner buffet, as the economy improves and the public voices a desire and need for it..
In May of 2011, the time had arrived for the completion of the remodel to finish out the main 3,000 square feet of the auction center.
After much thought and conversation they decided to go with a small-town country atmosphere.
The banquet center will serve the needs of local residents, businesses, churches, schools, nonprofit agencies, brides and grooms with a location that has a warm, inviting and different décor than typical reception or meeting facilities that only offered white walls, table and chairs..
This July, with the last project in completion, the dream of a beautiful, modern and full service auction and banquet center has become a reality.
The remodel of the main area includes heat and air conditioning, an elevated 14’x 15’ carpeted stage, and a custom designed removable wall that complements the interior of café.
In keeping with the country and western atmosphere the walls, curtains, “barn doors”, freshly painted tables and chairs all reflect a classy country venue that all guests will feel comfortable and welcomed..
The banquet center can service 150 to 200 guests with additional seating in the café area if needed.
The commercial kitchen facilities can be rented for an event along with the banquet center or they can provide in house catering.
The building also has a beautifully decorated and fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment that can be available for the rental party for guest and or bridal party if needed.
White china, glass goblets, flatware and white linens are available in house for those special events in addition to all types of “theme” decorations to complete the event’s decorum..
In addition to being a broker and auctioneer, Paulette has several hundred cooking competition awards which are proudly displayed in the café, her design experience and 30+ years of catering experience with banquets ranging from 10 to 10,000 which was an event for First Baptist Church of Dallas, she clearly can handle and deliver the party you are wanting for your guest.
She enjoys sharing her talents with the planning, decorating, and food preparation thus providing an enjoyable event.
.
Paulette plans are to decorate the facility for the major holidays to complement the festivities that will be booked during those months and plans to offer by reservations a “fixed price buffet” for certain holidays.
Many elderly and small families have become isolated and alone during holidays; having a family style event could become a blessing for many..
Chad Heard, son of the couple will be an occasional visiting Chef for special events.
Currently Chad is on the culinary staff of Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK and is completing his culinary studies at the Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, OK.
Chad’s training and exposure to all kinds of receptions, weddings and catered events will have a fresh and innovative contribution to the catering operations of the banquet center.
Various menu choices will be available for patrons to pick and choose items that work best for the type and size of functions planned and can be customized to fit any budget..
The banquet hall can be rented on a daily or weekly basis or for any long term events such as conferences, continuing education meetings, training seminars, church functions etc.
It would be a nice and convenient alternative for the local high schools for their proms, home coming, sweetheart or other dinners and dances.
, The Colsons welcome you to use the banquet facility for your reunions, company parties, social events, school functions, holiday gatherings and or weddings.
For many years John has been a strong supporter and organizer for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital raising over $100,000 with his annual events held in the years past.
John and Paulette plan to continue with those efforts with the completion of the new facility..
John has a compassion for those in need and freely shares his gift of auctioneering with many that have needed him in the past with fund raisers for heart patients, kidney transplants, cancer patients for all ages for over the past 25 years.
The couple offers assistance with organizing fund raisers for the community as a need arises..
John and Paulette state they are here to serve you and thank you for the many years of friendship and support you have given them these past years.
They look forward to seeing you at the next auction or event.
By investing in the renovation of the building, and providing their auction, real estate and banquet services are their way of investing in the future growth of the community and surrounding areas..
Check the facility out on Facebook.
Photos will be continually posted of the booked events and auctions, and the decorations as they change.
Check out the “before and after” of the transformation of the building.
