Detailed description is 設置者・運営法人は、学校法人藤田学園。概説創立時には、名古屋保健衛生大学という大学名だったが、設立者である藤田啓介・藤田学園元総長（1925年3月21日-1995年6月11日、名古屋帝国大学医学部卒、元岩手医科大学助教授・元愛知学院大学歯学部教授）の名前および学園名に因んで命名された。建学の理念は「獨創一理」であり、あなた自身がもつ創造力で新しい時代を切り拓いていく力となり得る、という考え方を示したものである（2010年学校案内より）。1970年代に設置された新設私立医大である。 2003年に医学系分野で超低侵襲標的化診断治療開発センターとして21世紀COEプログラム研究教育拠点に採択された。研究で拠点リーダーは浅野喜造医学部小児科教授（1944年-、名古屋大学医学部卒）。また、2004年には、短期大学が文部科学省の「特色ある大学教育支援プログラム」に採択された。また最近ではアルツハイマーに関して、異常たんぱくが脳内でつくられる仕組みについて総合医科学研究所・前田明教授の研究グループが取り上げられている。医学部の6年間の学費は、3,700万円程度（）。名古屋大学医学部や慶應義塾大学医学部出身の教授が多いが、1999年以降は自校出身の教授も何人か誕生している。また、准教授以下の研究者には多くの自校出身者がいる。毎年10月下旬に、学園祭"Fujita Festival"が開催される。藤田学園独自のアセンブリが必須科目として取り入れられている。これは教職員と学生が学部・学校の壁を越えて共通の活動を行うことを通して、チーム医療に要求される能力と意識を養うものである（2010年度学校案内より）。46個のアセンブリ班から選択する。
