Her parents had little to no education due to their lack of resources growing up in the countryside in Puerto Rico.
Motivated by her parents and her eight elder siblings to read and to value education, Patricia was in a gifted program in middle school and attended Brooklyn Technical High School, a specialized secondary school in New York City.
She went on to attend Syracuse University, a highly competitive four-year institution, where she studied psychology.
In that time, she worked with SU's combined HEOP and Bridge programs as a peer tutor, and developed a passion for college access, especially with first-generation students and those with financial need.
She decided to dedicate her career to education.

Patricia went on to teach Spanish in New York City, earned a Master's degree in Counselor Education at The College at Brockport in New York, and served as a high school counselor and an academic advisor and counselor at a highly competitive public four-year higher education institution.
She developed College 101, a college transition program, and founded and coordinated a year-long women's leadership program developing the leadership, networking, and advocacy skills of young college women of all backgrounds.
She went on to do college access outreach and advising work at the community college level and created a leadership development program for student leaders before joining a prestigious scholarship foundation working with high-achieving students demonstrating financial need..
