Detailed description is The Mobile School Counselor was founded to assist parents and students in their journey of applying to college ,and all that it entails, in their own home.
I am Jo-anne Flax, Ph.D.
(aka Dr.
Jo), a retired school counselor with over twenty years of experience guiding students through the process of preparing for and applying to college.
I began my journey as a counselor with an MS in Counseling from C.W.
Post University, and then followed up with a doctorate in School.
Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of Florida.
I worked both as a.
counselor in the high school setting and taught future counselors as an adjunct faculty.

I founded The Mobile School Counselor a few years ago after it became clear to me that.
there is often a gap between the information provided by the school counselors (of which I was one for 20+ years) and the information needed to make informed decisions about what high school classes are chosen, the college application process, and the decision making process including financial aid.
Why does this happen? Well, to begin with, the entire process needs parents to be involved.
Usually the school offers a meeting at night for the parents-a limited time for sure.
Then factor in the caseloads of the counselors.
The American Counselor’s Association suggests a caseload of 275.
If your school district conforms to that, it is rare.
How much time does that leave for you.
and or your child? Then there’s the “telephone game” - the counselor meets with your child, your child hears the information, hours later your child (hopefully) shares the SAME information with you.
How often does that happen? So, for these and other reasons, my company was founded.
Let’s be clear though—— I cannot replace theschool counselor, rather, I supplement what the counselor offers in the comfort of your own home, with all concerned parties present.
I think you will find my charges to be quite reasonable because my goal is to make the information and experience I have accessible to all, not just the wealthy.
