Our History.

In November of 2010, Donelson Coaching set out to create an opportunity for local young women with the idea that committed and driven kids should be able to participate in a sport we are so passionate about, no matter what their background.
They rode bikes while building self-esteem, improving their fitness, and learning about nutritional opportunities.
They received mountain bikes and equipment, were trained by professional coaches, and competed in race events throughout Eagle County.
Mountain biking provided the means of these girls to escape the stresses of high-school life and teach lifelong skills..

No member had ever taken part in competitive mountain biking; however, each girl became passionate about this incredible opportunity.
Together, they create an amazing team dynamic despite different backgrounds and challenges.
As a group, these girls strive to overcome all obstacles to become one of the Vail Valley’s premiere mountain biking teams..

The Cycle Effect’s mission is empowering young women through mountain biking to create brighter futures and build stronger communities..

That statement encompasses 3 major ideas that we take to heart..

“Create brighter futures” We are helping our young women dream bigger and have higher expectations for their lives.
Simply put, through mountain bike training and racing, our athletes realize that what they thought was impossible is, in fact possible through hard work and perseverance..

“Build Stronger communities” Our young women are out in the community volunteering and serving the community.
We are integral in helping our young women find jobs, create community projects like building a pump-track, working on trails, and being an active part in the MTB community..

Finally, we “Empower” them.
Our young women are given opportunities for community service, public speaking, mentorship and goal setting.
They receive over 90 days per year of highly personalized programming with our coaches, role models and volunteers.
Lastly, we help them find funding to attend college.
Through our relationships with their schools, foundations and donors, we have been able to help send 100% of our graduates to college..

Our Goals.

- Provide an outlet and activity for high school and middle school aged young women to keep them engaged and interested in school and school related activities..

- Teach life skills such as goal setting, overcoming obstacles, time management, healthy decision-making, the importance of physical fitness and nutrition and outdoor stewardship..

- Instill a higher level of self-confidence and sense of belonging..

- Provide avenues for success that may not have been available..

- Play a role in ensuring that our girls successfully complete high school and move on to higher education..

What We Have Accomplished.

- In 2016 and our fourth year of programming, we have:.

- Worked with over 75 middle and high school girls.
- Participated in over 1,000 volunteer hours.
- Offered more than 3,500 contact days.
- Started a multi-year study with Colorado State University on social and emotional behavioral change.
- Raced over 250 times.
- 100% of graduates have gone to college.
- 100% of our girls learn goal setting, nutrition, trail etiquette and maintenance, outdoor appreciation, technology training, as well as mental and physical training.
- We have placed numerous girls in employment with local businesses.
- Had our first athlete race at US National Championships.
- We expect a 10-20% growth in all of the above categories in 2017.

- Serve an additional 40% more young women through our program.
- Implement a formal mentorship program for all of our participants.
- Continue to expand to year-round programming.
- Work with USA Cycling licensed coaches.
- Have our first leadership retreat for our captains and older athletes.
- Implement our new strategic plan to create sustainability and excellence in programming.
- Continue to work with and introduce hundreds of kids to cycling and healthy lifestyles.
- Collaborate with the school district and other youth organizations to identify participants who need our program
