Detailed description is melbourne alt-soul.Melbourne-based instrumental soul group The Cactus Channel have released two LPs, four 45s, and have been an integral part in shaping the thriving Australian soul scene.
Their original take on soul music has seen the band collaborate with Australian singer/producer Nick Murphy (aka Chet Faker), and now with Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music)..

The outfit first came together in 2009 at Princes Hill High School where they bonded over MF Doom, James Brown and Eddie Bo.
After being picked up by Melbourne label HopeStreet Recordings in their formative years, The Cactus Channel released their 2012 debut LP ‘Haptics’, which gained them a top 5 spot in Triple J Unearthed High.
Building off their rave-reviewed debut, the band continued with a national tour and various festival appearances..

In their early University years, the band recorded their sophomore album ‘Wooden Boy’, a compendium of brooding, filmic instrumentalia which became the archetype for the band's future writing, sound and aesthetic.
The record, too weird for JJJ and too intellectual for many dancefloors, developed a devoted cult audience worldwide and sold out of its vinyl run almost immediately.
One of those listening was Nick Murphy, aka Chet Faker.

Soon after, the band was approached by Nick Murphy to collaborate on two tracks that became the 2015 double-single release ‘Kill The Doubt / Sleeping Alone’.
Gaining over 2,000,000 plays on Spotify/Soundcloud combined, the release grew significant International attention for the band, with work in place for International tours/collabs/etc.
The single also reached #6 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts worldwide, Spotify Viral 50, and received considerable rotation on Double and Triple J, earning a Hottest 100 nomination..

In early-2016 the band started working on their next release featuring singer/songwriter Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music/My Own Pet Radio).
The collaboration came about through an online interview where Sam mentioned The Cactus Channel as an influence.
From there the band and Sam began talking and have now begun creating music that is a perfect balance of The Cactus Channel’s cinematic soul and Sam Cromack’s rich melodic and lyrical content.
