For many years – I watched my mother struggle with diabetes and heart disease.
I stood by as she underwent heart surgery and was then diagnosed with a rare blood disease and put on life support.

On November 1, 2003 - I watched as the doctors took my mother off Life Support.
I think I stopped breathing that very moment!.
As the holidays were fast approaching – I could not imagine how I was going to make it through! On December the 20th, a parcel arrived at our door – addressed to our daughter Amanda – shipped from The North Pole.

Inside the box was a painting, a letter from Santa Claus and an angel..
What I didn’t know – was that weeks earlier Amanda along with her class mates had walked their Santa letters to the post office and mailed them to the North Pole.

Amanda only asked for one thing that Christmas – to have her grandmother back..
I know that time seems to freeze when you learn that someone you love is struggling or has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

10 years ago – I erected the first Angel Tree in Eastern Ontario.
It was full of Angels that graced everyone with their mercy, in a time of need..
This year a number of Angel Trees will stand throughout Simcoe County – all in memory or honour of a family member, friend or colleague who has survived or been affected by illness – including our most inspiring Angel Tree in the lobby of RVH..
