Detailed description is Der Tannensee ist ein Stausee in den Urner Alpen.
Er liegt im Schweizer Kanton Obwalden in der Gemeinde Kerns im Gebiet des Sommer- und Wintersportorts Melchsee-Frutt.
Entstanden ist der 0,33 km² grosse See durch einen 1958 fertiggestellten Erdschüttdamm, der die von Osten herabfliessenden Bäche aufstaut.Lage und UmgebungDer See befindet sich östlich des Melchsees.
Dem Melchsee ist auch der Staudamm zugewandt.
Der See liegt in einem eher flachen Hochtal, fast auf dem Sattel zum Gental.
Am nördlichen Ufer führt eine Strasse dritter Ordnung entlang, welche als Zufahrtsstrasse von der Frutt nach Tannen dient.
Am südlichen Ufer verläuft ein Feldweg, welcher beidseitig in die Zufahrtsstrasse mündet.
Benachbarte Berge sind im Norden der 2441 Meter hohe Hohmad, im Osten der Reissend Nollen mit 3002 Metern Höhe, die bis 3042 Meter hohen Wendenstöcke und im Südwesten erhebt sich das Glogghüs (2534 m).
