Detailed description is Tan Kah Kee MRT Station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Downtown Line in Bukit Timah, Singapore.
The station serves the Bukit Timah corridor just north of the junction between Bukit Timah Road and Duchess Avenue, and is within walking distance to several schools in the area, including Hwa Chong Institution, Nanyang Girls' High School, Raffles Girls' Primary School, Methodist Girls' School and National Junior College.The station is named after Tan Kah Kee.HistoryAs part of the DTL Stage 2's LTA survey in 2008, some Singaporeans including those from Hwa Chong Institution, the Chinese High School and Nanyang Girls' High School wants the station's name to be renamed from Duchess to Hwa Chong.
Despite this, it was not officially named Hwa Chong by public transport authorities, being forced to rename to Tan Kah Kee, in due respect of the founder after the 2011 general election, whereas it was unofficially named Hwa Chong, as it is located near to Hwa Chong Institution.
The other two names, Hillcrest and Watten was also considered.
