We LOVE creating at Sugar Mountain Express! We have been married for 20 years, and enjoy spending our time being creative together and expressing ourselves in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Early on in our marriage, we did not have a lot of money for home furnishings so we would shop at thrift stores and garage sales.
We quickly learned to love the treasure hunt involved with shopping second hand and the process of refinishing and repurposing our finds.
This has been a wonderful creative outlet for us, and is something we still enjoy doing for our home, family and friends.

Dave has been a machinist by trade for over 20 years working for various machine shops.
About year ago we built a shop at our home (Sugar Mountain Express) and have been making metal art, toys, jewelry and whatever else comes to mind, along with our repurposed art.

The shop itself is built with mostly recycled materials, and many of the machines are vintage and have been refurbished by us.
It's a fun place to work, hang out and be creative..

All machined items are one of a kind.
There are no blue prints, no computers, all metal starts as a solid piece and is hand-turned on a manual lathe and mill.
The art of machining requires patience and time.
It is a slow process with a beautiful outcome.
Manual machining has become a dying trade over the years, as computer programmed machines have taken the place of man.
There are very few artists using metal in this way.
We are not welding, we are not casting, we are not running mass production.
