Detailed description is Hiroki Morinoue and Setsuko Watanabe-Morinoue opened Studio 7 Fine Arts Gallery in November, 1979, as the first and now longest standing contemporary art gallery in Hawaii.
A humble space in a small village with a charmed history, the gallery holds an open-ended mission: to create and promote Contemporary Art.
The first 2 decades, the gallery promoted local emerging artists such as Chiu Leon, Wilfred Yamasawa, Nick Mitchell, Morgan Mitchell, Diane Moore, Randy Takaki, Gerald Ben, Nora Yamanoha, Glenn Yamanoha, Jeera Rattanangkoon alongside their own art work.
Studio 7 served as a stepping stone to the beginnings of many local contemporary artists and their careers.

The original building was built in 1950 as a pool hall designed for Hiroki’s father, Sakuichi Morinoue who was a legendary pool shark across the state.
The south room and downstairs spaces was designed as a Laundromat for Ayako Mizukami-Morinoue, the first business in West Hawaii.

In 1995, Hiroki and Setsuko’s dedication to the arts and education lead them to become one of the founding members of the Donkey Mill Art Center.
Much of their inspiration came from ‘Uncle’ Bob and ‘Aunty’ Carol Rogers who founded the Kona Arts Center in Holualoa in 1967.
For over 10 years, Setsuko served as volunteer Program Coordinator and Hiroki as a volunteer Artistic Director for the Donkey Mill Art Center.
Now the Mill hosts numerous international artists and has become a bustling center of artistic activity in the state of Hawaii..
