I have been working as a photographer since 2004.
My on-the-job photography education began at Sears Portrait Studio in the suburbs of Chicago.
From there, I moved on to work in a couple high end photography studios in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago..

I branched off and started my own company, Kathryn Rose Photography, which I operated from 2006 until mid-2014.
At that same time, I was working during the weekdays as an owner and Vice President of a very busy steel distribution company.
In the middle of 2014, I decided to take a break from photography to allow myself a better work/life balance..

After much introspection, I circled back to photography in August of 2015, when Step Outside Images was born..

The name "Step Outside" came to me and refused to leave after my husband and I took a six week trip to Europe in the summer of 2015.
During that month and half, we stepped outside of our own little Chicago-based lives and into the lives and cultures of people across the world.
We immersed ourselves in their spaces; their traditions, and we felt happy and freed!.

So when we came back to Chicago, I realized I had come to highly value the idea of "stepping outside." I think it's worth asking oneself, "How can I step outside? What is holding me back? Can I find the patient courage to step outside that which holds me back?".
.
And yes, in case you were wondering, this does somehow circle back to photography! Photography; being photographed is not an easy thing.
It does require some "stepping outside" - outside of ourselves, our comfort zones.
Sometimes we don't feel confident or sure about stepping in front of the camera.
We know inherently, though, that it's important to be photographed.
We want to document ourselves; our lives.
We want to have images to look back on as we get older.
We want to see ourselves with our loved ones in those images..

So the important thing is to let go of that fear.
Not easy, but definitely possible.
I am not only an excellent photographer; I am also here to ease your fears; to help you step outside and feel comfortable doing it..
