Politeknik Keuangan Negara STAN adalah pendidikan tinggi kedinasan di bawah Badan Pendidikan dan Pelatihan Keuangan, Kementerian Keuangan Republik Indonesia, yang menyelenggarakan pendidikan Program Studi Diploma bidang keuangan negara.
STAN didirikan dengan dasar hukum Keputusan Presiden RI No.45 Tahun 1974 juncto Keputusan Presiden RI No.12 Tahun 1967 serta dengan landasan hukum Peraturan Menteri Keuangan RI No.1/PMK/1977 tanggal 18 Februari 1977.Program studi yang diselenggarakan oleh PKN STAN untuk lulusan SMA, Madrasah Aliyah dan SMK adalah pendidikan Program Studi Diploma I dan III dengan jurusan/program studi sebagai berikut : Program Studi Diploma III Akuntansi Program Studi Diploma I / III Pajak Program Studi Diploma III Penilai / Pajak Bumi dan Bangunan Program Studi Diploma I / III Kepabeanan dan Cukai Program Studi Diploma I / III Kebendaharaan Negara Program Studi Diploma III Kebendaharaan Negara Sedangkan program studi non-reguler yang diselenggarakan oleh PKN STAN adalah : Program Studi Diploma IV Akuntansi Program Studi Diploma III Akuntansi dengan Kurikulum Khusus Program Studi Diploma III Pajak dengan Kurikulum Khusus Untuk Program Studi Diploma I lama pendidikannya satu tahun, bertempat di Kampus PKN STAN Jakarta dan di Balai Diklat Keuangan yang terdapat di delapan daerah, yaitu di Medan, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Malang, Balikpapan, Makassar, Cimahi dan Manado.
Untuk Prodgram Studi Diploma III lama pendidikannya tiga tahun, bertempat hanya di Kampus PKN STAN Jakarta.Selama pendidikan, mahasiswa tidak dipungut biaya pendidikan dan tidak diasramakan.
Pendidikan PKN STAN memakai sistem ikatan dinas sebagaimana ditegaskan kembali dalam Keputusan Menteri Keuangan RI No.289/KMK.014/2004 tanggal 14 Juni 2004 tentang Ketentuan Ikatan Dinas bagi Mahasiswa Program Diploma Bidang Keuangan di Lingkungan Departemen Keuangan RI.
