INTRODUCTION: .

Many catholic young men coming from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts ( Karnataka State) who do not find a livelihood in their place of birth, come to Mumbai in search of employment or higher studies without any financial support experience great hardship to secure roof over their heads in this Metropolitan city..
FORMATION:.
In the year 1943, by some young, intelligent and foresighted persons from Mangalore with Late Marcel Mendonca, Maxim Alva, Nicholas Alva, Lawrence Saldanha, and Felix D'Souza formed a charitable Institution under the name of ST.
PAUL'S CATHOLIC ASSOCIATION to provide accommodation to such ambitious youngsters (one of the necessities of life) with an infrastructure of a library and other facilities to help them build their carrier by mutual co-operation..

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION:.
1.
To promote the social standing of itsa members by helping each other .
in the field of education or employment;.
2.
To promote the spiritual welfare of its members;.
3.
To take case of its members in case of sickness;.
4.
To render physical and monetary help in case of death of its members, for their burial, .

REGISTRATION:.
The Association got registered under the societies' registration Act, XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 19450.
The Association was also got registered under the Income Tax Act of 1961 under section 12A..

ADMINISTRATION:.
The Association is being administered by a council of members elected at the Annual General Meeting held every year.
The Managing Committee consits of the President, 5 Office-Bearers and 12 other members.
The Internal Auditor is nominated at the Annual General Meeting to audit the books of accounts.
All membership registers and books of accounts are fully computersed.
The Managing Committee members do honorary service for the Association..

MEMBERSHIP:.
At the formation of the Association there were 71 members and the membership of the Association was limited exclusively for men..
In August 1959 the Managing Committee had started another class of members called as non- residential members giving them all facilities other than lodging facilities.
This class of membership is limited to 800 persons.
Now there are 6 lady members also in this class.
At present there are 1300 members on the rolls of the Association, out of whom 500 are eligible for lodging and other facilities titled as A class and the rest eligible to facilities other than lodging and titled as B class..
The rate of Subscription for A class residing members is Rs.
150/- per month and for other Rs.50/- per month.
However in the case of members who are years and above age, also those who are going to native place due to their prolonged illness or due to unemployment, are charges at the concessional rate of Rs.10/- per month.
Any member who is above years of age or period of membership exceeds 40 years shall eligible for total exemption in subscription except death all contribution.
An A class member may be permitted to entertain a guest and allowed lodging facilities for a period of not exceeding 15 days..

SOCIAL WELFARE:.
The Association is maintaining a library and a study room for the benefit of its members and also provides facilities for sports and cultural activities.
the Association has provided help to its members in the field of education and employment and we are proud that some of our members who while doing their jobs and working for the Association have acquired various degrees, and have become Doctor, Lawyer, High ranking Government Officials Etc.
Some of our members who were unable to get a square meal have to day established themselves in business with the blessings of our patron St.
Paul.
Some of our members have traversed the corners of the world and some settled there with their families and yet retain their names on our roles..

SPIRITUAL WELFARE:.
All members residing in the premises scrupulously observe all the rules laid down by the association for their well being.
Beside offering a Annual thanks giving mass in honour of the Patron St.
Paul or on after 29th June, the Association also offers a Requiem Mass for the souls of the departed members.
Important feasts like Christmas, nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Feast of St.
Paul and other function are celebrated in keeping with the norms of the Association..

MESS & WATER FACILITIES:.
The Association is maintaining a mess to provide food to its members at subsidized rates and also water during 24 hours a day..

ASSISTANCE IN SICKNESS:.
The Association takes utmost care of members in case of sickness providing medical aid or arranging to hospitalize them for treatment.
In case when member suffer from serious illness and can not work and have no one look after them, the Association provides monetary help from earmarked Medical-Aid Fund and either makes arrangement to send members to some aged home or to their families who could look after them..

DEATH BENEFIT FUND:.
To provide monetary assistance to the families of the deceased member, we operate a fund called Earmarked Death-Benefit-Fund.
Each member is called upon to pay a nominal amount of Rs.
10/- only on the death of any member and the sum so collected is paid to the dependent of the deceased member as per length of membership upto Rs.
20,000/-.In case a member dies while residing in the Association premises their funeral is arranged by the Association..

CATHOLICS HAILING FROM MANGALORE DIOCESE (SOUTH KANARA & UDUPI DISTRICTS) BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10 AND 35 SHALL BE ELIGIBLE FOR BEING ENROLLED AS A MEMBER OF THE ASSOCIATION
