In 1849 Carl Hassler, a local farmer, donated two acres of sandy hilltop to be used as a site for the newly founded St.
John Lutheran Church.
Originally, a single, small building served as sanctuary, parsonage, and school for the congregation.
By 1854, a larger church had been built, and an adjacent piece of land to the north of the hilltop was designated a cemetery.
1924 saw the construction of today’s worship space, and in 1967, a parish education building was added on.
A church elevator servicing all three levels of the building was installed in 2001.
