Detailed description is Eastern Rite Catholic Church observing the Syro-Malabar tradition, under the guidance and direction of the St.
Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago St.
Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Church traces its history to the year 1992, when a handful of people belonging to the Syro-Malabar Rite came together under the spiritual leadership of Fr.
Joseph Mullakkara, MSFS, a Syro-Malabar priest from the Missionaries of Saint Francis De Sales Congregation.
Fr.
Joseph, serving at St.
Patrick Catholic Church at Norcross, took the initiative to conduct the Syro-Malabar Qurbana at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain.
Mass was held once a month and on special occasions.
As years passed, the mass continued, the community grew, and participation increased.
As the community grew and the activities increased, the desire to own a facility was intensified.

In July 2003, six acres of land along with a small building was bought at 4561 Rosebud Rd., Loganville Georgia, as the future home for the church.
The property was bought in cash, fully funded by individual contributions from members.
In September 2003, the Catholic Mission was officially established in Georgia under the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago.
Fr.
Joseph was appointed as the first director of the mission.
In a meeting held in October 2003, it was decided to name the mission Blessed Alphonsa Catholic Church.
In this meeting, several committees were formed and the leaders were elected to streamline the activities of the new parish.
The acquisition of land, the establishment of the mission, and the appointment of a full time director were the leading steps toward the formation of the current parish..

In July 2004, Mar Jacob Angadiath, Bishop of St.
Thomas Syro Malabar Diocese of Chicago visited Atlanta and laid the corner stone for the church.
In September 2004, Fr.
Joseph Kuzhuppil, MSFS, was appointed as the full time Director of the Mission.
Fr.
Kurian Karickal, MSFS replaced Fr.
Kuzhuppil in 2005.
With efficient and effective leadership of Fr.
Karickal, the community grew each day..

The Building Committee and the Finance Committee worked feverishly along with the spiritual leadership of Fr.
Joseph Mullakkara, Fr.
Joseph Kuzhuppil and Fr.
Kurian Karickal to get the necessary paperwork approved by the county for the development of the land and the construction of the church.
The site plan was approved and the land development and construction of approximately 7500 sq feet church building was started with the ground breaking ceremony in May 2005.
The Building Committee under the leadership of Jose Kannukadan worked day and night and completed the construction of the church facility in October 2006.
The formal inauguration of the new parish and the blessing of the Church facility by Mar Jacob Angadiath, the Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago, took place on December 4, 2006.
This day is remembered as the land mark and the major milestone in the history of the Syro Malabar Catholics in the state of Georgia..

The mission began with 60 families in 2003 was increased to 190 families by the end of 2006.
Currently there are 300 registered families, approximately 1200 members and a full time pastor serving the parish.
Fr.
Johny Puthiaparampil MSFS was serving the parish as the pastor from 2008- 2010.
Today Fr.
Mathew Elayadathamadam,msfs is the full time pastor and the church has grown to a full fledged catholic facility with mass offerings on week days and weekends.
Religious education and faith formation is one of the major focuses of the church and more than 200 students are currently attending religious education classes every Sunday after the mass.
A core team of youth and adult members are volunteering and leading the religious education program.
A parish council consists of 25 representatives assist the pastor in church administration.
The council meets every fourth Sunday at the church to discuss and decide various initiatives.
In addition to the parish council various other committees and sub committees are volunteering and assisting the church activities.
A unit of the Knights of Columbus has been functioning since 2006.
In 2009, the church acquired six acres of neighboring property with a building and currently utilizing it as the catechism center and rectory.
With that, our church facility is extended to 12 acres of land and building with parking lots, play grounds, a basketball court and many other amenities.
Our parish community is still growing and we are in the threshold of continuous growth and expansion with the blessings of St.
Alphonsa and the dedicated hard work and fellowship of our members..
