Detailed description is The basic aim of the school is to prepare slum children for class 1, 2 and 3 with basic education thereby enabling them secure admission in formal schools.
Background.
• In February 2014, there was a fire incident in Nathupur village, DLF Phase 3 that adversely affected everyday living of 65 families.

• Families living in these jhuggies are mostly maids, garbage collectors, waste pickers and local rickshawalas..
• A team of volunteers set up a relief camp with the help of local Sarpanch, landlord of the jhuggies, who provided us a packka room.
We also provided free medical camps, food, clothes, utensils for cooking, footwear, etc..
• Three major Medical Camps were organized with doctors from Medanta, Apollo, Artimis and other renowned hospital .
More than 400 patients were attended and medicines worth Rs 2 lacs were distributed free of cost.

The Beginning of the journey --.

• During the rehabilitation of basti, We noticed children of the locality roaming around, rack picking, smoking, abusing, segregating garbage with their parents..
• Out of around 400 children of the basti only 8-10 were studying in the school, we felt a need to educate the younger generation and integrate them in the society.
We were convinced that only education can bring them out of this mess, this is how we conceived the idea of opening the school.

• With a consistent efforts by a team of dedicated volunteers who went door to door to spread awareness among parents and to motivate the children about the need for education.
This required lot of persuasion, convincing and networking.
Such committed efforts for one year resulted in opening of the school, Sri Sri Gyan Kendra” on 16th Feb 2015 in a single room which was later renovated.

• The School started with 50 students sitting in one room on Darries with three employed teachers.
Subsequently tables and benches were provided for them.
within a month number of children rose to 70..

The Milestones ---.

• We continuously worked on improving the basic infrastructure like painting, installation of doors, construction of more rooms, tubelights, fans etc.
Now we have three classrooms with desk, chairs, one office room and a store.
The School has a boundry wall also.

• As there was no suitable sanitation facility in the basti the toilets have been constructed in the school premises.

• We are providing the cool purified drinking water to the children at the school.

• Kachcha area around the school is covered with marble (donated by one of supporters), with no water logging, to give clean environment.
We have also put up iron fencing and made the area clean and green.

• We have provided books, bags and Tiffin boxes to the students..

• We have a medical attendant at the school.
The ongoing medical facility at school include fortnightly medical checkup, regular deworming, nail trimming.

• The Kids have also given them facilities for crafting, drawing, storytelling, dancing, music etc.
The two dedicated volunteers come for facilitating the above.

• The clothes are also being provided on regular basis to these kids .

• A nutritious mid day meal is provided to the children at school.

• Our daily routine starts with assembly, yoga, pranayama, Om chanting and prayers in Hindi and English.
After studies we end the day with prayers and nadishodhan pranayama..

• We are following a curriculum in lines with the formal school.
The children are taught basic subjects such as English, Hindi and math and they do various activities for learning the things around us.
