In approximately 1927 the Sandy Beach Resort was built, which is now the home of Spindleshanks.
The existing fireplace (inside and out) warmed guests as they entered the hotel’s lobby and created a cozy gathering place for visitors outdoors in the summer evenings.
The Resort also featured a restaurant and grocery store.

In 1942 the Tahoe Vista Post Office took up residence in the hotel lobby.
By the early 1950’s the Post Office was finally opened year round to businesses.
It was at this time the site truly became the focal point of activity in Tahoe Vista.
Hotel guests and residents would gather around the outdoor portion of the fireplace during the summer evenings to swap stories of the day’s activities.
