Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Jakarta atau dikenal juga dengan nama Boedoet 7 yang berada di bilangan Sawah Besar, Jakarta Pusat.SejarahSMA Negeri 1 Jakarta menempati gedung di Jl.
Budi Utomo No.
7 yang diperkirakan sudah didirikan sejak tahun 1889 yang pada waktu itu dipakai oleh PHS (Prins Hendrick School).
Sebelum tahun 1945 di Jakarta sudah berdiri Sekolah Menengah Tinggi (SMT) yang menempati gedung Kanisius di Jl.
Cikini Raya.
Sekolah inilah yang merupakan embrio dari SMAN 1 Jakarta.
Tanggal 13 Maret 1946 di bentuk sekolah Pemerintah yang pertama, yang mula-mula masih menggunakan nama SMT, lalu di ubah menjadi SMOA (Sekolah Menengah Oemoem Atas) yang menempati gedung PSKD di Jl.
Diponogoro.
SMOA kemudian berganti nama menjadi SMA yang pada waktu itu dikenal dengan sebutan SMA RI atau SMA Kiblik, Tahun 1947 akibat adanya Agresi Belanda sekolah ini dibubarkan, akan tetapi kegiatan belajar mengajar di lanjutkan di rumah-rumah para guru, antara lain di rumah Bapak Adam Bachtiar (Direktur) di Jl.
Gondangdia Lama No.
22, rumah Bapak Wagendorp di Jl.
Sawo No.
12 dan juga di rumah Ny.
Dr.
Susilo di Jl.
Proklamasi No.
12.
Keadaan ini terus berlangsung sampai penyerahan kedaulatan kepada Pemerintah Republik Indonesia dari pihak Belanda kepada Pemerintah Republik Indonesia pada tanggal 27 Desember 1947 Pada awal tahun 1950 SMA Kiblik tersebut bergabung kembali tempat belajarnya dengan menempati gedung di Jl.
Budi Utomo No.
7 sampai sekarang, Tercatat beberapa kali perubahan nama dari SMA Kiblik sebelum berubah menjadi SMAN 1 Jakarta.
SMA Kiblik diganti menjadi SMA 1-A dan SMA 1-B, kemudian berubah nama menjadi SMA 1 ABC pada tahun 1962.
Berubah nama menjadi SMA Negeri 1 pada tahun 1964 dan atas keputusan Pemerintah, belum lama ini SMAN 1 berubah nama menjadi SMU 1 Jakarta.
Hal ini juga terjadi pada SMAN lainnya di Jakarta
