Shadow Of The Mountain- Chainsaw Carvings

Santa-cruz,

California,United-states - 95073

Detailed description is Custom redwood chainsaw carvings & Lumberjackings..
Thousands of years ago, on this very ground, the Ohlone Indians foretold of a man who would come and bring light to the lurid depths of the forest.
It was a time of darkness and danger.
The Ohlone lived along the coastal edges, with their backs to the water and their eyes on the trees.
The darkness of the woods terrified the villagers, especially the darkest parts at the base of the mountains.
The Ohlone believed that spirits inhabited the woods.
Spirits that would tear a man limb from limb.
Spirits that could not be appeased with sacrifices of gifts or crops...
only blood and death..
.
A boy was born, an outcast.
Lonely, he would enter the forest.
His friends were the trees, and he would listen for hours to their stories.
He watched as saplings grew to giant size, and as the earth groaned beneath their feet.
He knew of crowns and conifers, and in this place he believed himself a chieftain, ever growing towards the sun..
.
Famine, plague ravaged the land- a time came for sacrifice and the boy was chosen.
But on the day of appeasement, the boy fled deep into the woods.
Deep into the redwood and fern.
Tired and hungry, on his feet traveling for days, the boy found a narrow valley.
He decided to rest.
A storm brewed.
It began to rain.
The trees swayed, creaked, and groaned.
And the boy became afraid.
He retreated into a small cave he found, waiting for the storm to pass.
But the noises continued, the creaks and groans became louder, howling with the winds until they became a roar.
The boy shook and cried.
.
.
“Whats the matter boy" came a guttural voice.
.
The boy turned to the darkness of the cave to find the visage of a thousand bears.
The boy had found the spirits that the villagers feared..
.
"Why do your people not come into the woods”, asked the bear..
.
"They are afraid of the darkness, they are afraid of you" replied to boy..
.
"And yet you are not?".
.
"No, I love the forest.
I speak with the trees".
.
"What of your people?".
.
"They believed you were angry with them, that you desired blood, and I was to be offered as sacrifice to satisfy you".
.
"Simple boy", said the bear, "we seek the humans no harm, we only desire to protect the forest, to listen to the wisdom of the trees".
.
"I have", whispered the boy.
“I do.”.
.
For thirty years following, the boy lived in the woods with the bears, in the valley of the haven.
He learned the bears secrets and gained their strength.
The bears called him Buckbo, bringer of light.
As time past he forgot all about the villagers and their huts on the shore.
.
One day many years later, while walking through a grove, Buckbo came to a hill overlooking the ocean.
Looking down he saw the water, the shore.
He began to walk towards it when he came across a village.
Much older now, and with the strength and stature of a bear, the villagers did not recognize him.
The villagers were afraid at the man who had come out of the woods.
He told the villagers his name; he told him of the magic of the woods.
He told them he found there was nothing to be afraid of in the depths of the woods, that the spirits wished them no harm.
He spoke slowly, as a tree..
.
He tried to tell the villagers they were just superstitious.
That there was no need for blood or sacrifice.
That the forest was a place of magic.
That the forest could sustain them and make them whole. The villagers laughed at this.
They laughed at Buckbo.
He pleaded and tried to convince them that it was safe where he came from, but they would not listen,.
.
Scorned, ridiculed, he retreated to the woods.
He had given up on the villagers.
He was angry.
The memories of being sentenced to sacrifice flooded back to Buckbo, of his exile into the forest, to the years of fear he lived in the village..
.
Buckbo became furious.
Screaming, howling and with the strength of one thousand bears Buckbo returned to the woods.
He imagined leveling the forest, of making it barren and cold, like the shoreline the villagers called home.
He imagined mighty blows, felling entire groves in one sweep.
Buckbo, even though consumed with hatred for the villagers, could not bring himself to go through with it, even to bring light into the forest and show them finally what was inside..
.
.
But the villagers were angry as well.
They did not believe that the woods were safe.
They cowered in fear of each shadow cast by each tree.
Shouting “Heretic! Heretic!” They could not believe that what they held true for so long was wrong.
They would not.
They forgot all about the prophecy of the one who would bring light to the forest.
They could not see through their fear that Buckbo was the "light" of the forest, and that they no longer had to be afraid..
.
The villagers approached the woods and began to burn the trees.
One by one, from the edges to the heart of forest.
They burned and burned, from ravine to hill crest , from branch to bough, and burned they did until only ash was left..
.
No one knows what became of Buckbo, or the bears.
The trees slowly regrew and the fear of the villagers waned, until the villagers forgot all about Buckbo.
The wisdom of the old trees was forever lost..
.
Some say that the spirit of Buckbo still lives in these woods.
That you can still see him in the groves, and that in his rage he still brings great storms and knocks trees from the earth.
Toppling even the mightiest of redwoods so that sunlight may return to the woods and we no longer have to be afraid.
.
My name is Luke, I am the last living descendant of Buckbo.
And for the past years I have used the trees fallen in storms, fallen from the rage of Buckbo, to release the wisdom and knowledge of the woods.
I carve tirelessly, to once again bring light to....
the shadow of the mountain.
