Detailed description is This is the official page of School of Management Studies Palakkad (University of Calicut). This is the centre of Calicut University for studying MBA. "School of Management Studies - Palakkad" was established in the year 2001, under University of Calicut. It offers full time MBA. . MBA SPECIALISATION OPTIONS FOR - FINANCE, HRM, MARKETING.. . THE UNIQUENESS OF SMS PALAKKAD. SMS-P has synergetic system of leaning and developing managerial skills, availing full advantage of the normal infrastructure facilities. The fee structure is very nominal- 30% less than of the fee structure of non university institutes.. . CLASS ROOM STUDIES:. The faculty is the mix academicians and professional managers. There is a team of core university faculty, who all have PG degree in management, to the theoretical subjects like quantitative technique, finance & accounting, marketing, Human resources, etc while guest faculty members are drawn from professional managers who take applied subjects like invest management, quality management, enterprise resource planning, etc. Among the guest faculty, there are former managing directors, general managers, and professionals with more than 15 years of experience each on industry and academics of business school. Thus, faculty with business process back ground is able to add much value to the students’ exposure to business situations, while dealing with the subjects. A few of the guest faculty members are research degree holders- Ph.D.. . INDUCTION PROGRAMME. Immediately after entering the school, an induction program is provided for three days, consisting of nine sessions, where in chief executives/ unit heads of organizations in and around palakkad, apprise the students on managerial roles in business units and what the organizations look for from the MBA candidates and the area of concern which an MBA student should focus, to build the needed managerial competence.. . INTERACTIVE SESSIONS. Very senior professionals are invited to interact with the students for an hour so where in the managers pass on wisdom of their life not only on management but on social values and norms. So that apart from learning managerial competencies, students also with look for good societal and ethical life. In a year 12 to 14 interactive sessions are conducted.. . CASE ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION SKILLS:-. Case analysis is one of the regular study methods adapted in the school. Business cases are discussed by dividing the students into various groups, under the guidance of concerned faculty and the students present the analysis in the class, which is evaluated, feed back given and monitored by the faculties. This provides good exposure and value addition to the students.. Presentations are also conducted in the school by giving current topics of concern to the students, with respect to the management scenario. They collect materials from journal, magazines, and internet and make presentations on the topic, under the guidance of the faculty. These exercises improve the knowledge level in terms of business updating and improve on the skill of presentation, along with building up and boosting their self confidence.. . VISIT TO WORK SITES:-. More than 8 visits are arranged in the 1st & 2nd semesters to acquaint the students with organizational set up and transformation process from raw material to finished products. Students are given specific response sheet, which they should respond on gathering information covering, corporate plan, annual plan, HR processes, management practices, employer employee relationship, customer orientation, etc. they submit report on each visit, which is evaluated and given back to them for reference.. . . QUIZ COMPETITION:-. Periodically students are encouraged to hold Quiz competition on a particular topic, which the students themselves select. One of them act as quiz master who prepares the set of questions; and this role is given in turn, so that good number of them get the opportunity for event management and the students in general update /upgrade he business knowledge with contribution from themselves, and the winning party is given prizes.. . LIBRARY:- . The library of SMS – P is having around 4000 items that every student can have 5/6 books at a time to take home. To supplement this, students can become member of PMA library where in apart from 3000 books, around 15 journals/magazines are being subscribed including the world renowned Harvard business review. Being the student of SMS – P the business world weekly is available at Rs. 4/-per issue (printed price: 10/-) and “The economic times” the financial daily of company executives is available at Rs 270/- against normal subscription of Rs. 529/- for 8 months.. . UPDATING BUSINESS PROCESSES:-. These are the sessions perhaps held only in SMS – P after the final examination, the out going students are given an awareness of the latest in each field of business processes – management practices, business positions, investment plans, quality norms, HR practices, etc. so students are update in most of the functional areas with the result that they have improved perceptions to choose careers and able to match better while discussing the topic of concern with seniors in each functional area. This programme is to cover in 8 to 10 sessions of one to two hours each.. . NORMAL SYSTEM INCLUDED:. All the above are apart from the normal learning systems of assignments, project reports, subject presentations in the class, etc.. . ASSOCIATION WITH CONSULTANCY WORK:-. The students are smart and have that extra energy get opportunity to get associated with consultancy work, taken up by PMA. Thus they get involved in the live management projects. Such involvements are rewarded and recognized by PMA, Participated in a 5day programme in MDP (management development programme) on soft skills for business excellence, conducted by MSME Development Institute, Govt. of Kerala.. .
