is leading the way in recruiting & training more African American male teachers for South Carolina classrooms through Call Me MiSTER program The Call Me MISTER (CMM) program is a collaboration between Clemson University and other colleges and universities, including South Carolina State University.
The purpose of the program is to increase the pool of available teachers from a diverse background, particularly among the lowest performing public schools.
Student participants are generally selected from among under- served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.
The program is HIGHLY competitive and provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships towards tuition & fees and a stipend each semester..

Freshmen & Sophomores: $2,000 towards tuition & fees/$1,000-Stipend.
.
Juniors & Seniors: $4,000 towards tuition & fees/$1,000-Stipend.
.
*Juniors & Seniors that are not admitted into teacher education will only receive $3,000 total.

It is important to note that these amounts are subject to change.
MISTERs are expected to teach in a public school in South Carolina for EACH year they receive funding after they graduate.

To participate in the program, the following guidelines and requirements must be met:.

*Be accepted for enrollment at South Carolina State University..
.
*Apply for financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form..
.
*Apply for the CMM program found at the official Call Me MISTER web site at www.callmemister.clemson.edu AND on the Call Me MISTER page found on www.scsu.edu.
Applications and supporting documents should be received by April 15th of each year.
All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
Presently, about three students are added to the program each year, which means that the program is highly competitive..

*Graduate students seeking a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in elementary, early childhood, special education or any K-12 area may also be considered for participation in the CMM program..

Please note that applicants who take and pass Praxis I (Pre-Professional Skills Assessment) prior to the selection deadline will be given high priority.
For information about this test, log on to www.ets.org/praxis.
Praxis I is a requirement for all prospective education majors in the state of South Carolina..
