Nel 1936, Francesco Vitaloni apre in Via Lecco 18, a Milano, la “Rosticceria San Carlo” intitolata alla vicina chiesa di San Carlo al Lazzaretto.
Il negozio si distingue ben presto per una specialità rivoluzionaria, le “patatine croccanti” che vengono distribuite quotidianamente alle panetterie e ai bar del circondario.

La produzione in pochi anni passa da venti chili al giorno a quantità considerevoli e così il Sig.
Vitaloni si trasferisce nel 1940 a Greco e l'azienda prende il nome “San Carlo … le patatine”.

Nel 1955 Alberto Vitaloni, attuale Presidente, subentra al padre e sotto la sua conduzione l'azienda raggiunge numeri impressionanti: oggi San Carlo produce 100 tonnellate di patatine – chips classiche, sapori e patatine per bambini, ma anche una ricca gamma di snack salati, stuzzichini per l’aperitivo, dolci e pani, 10 gli stabilimenti, 2200 i dipendenti, 170 i depositi, 1300 i venditori e relativi furgoni che garantiscono una rete distributiva capillare su tutto il territorio.
