The charity recognised that there is great need in Somalia for development in both the areas of education and health.
However, due to long standing differences among the clans there are huge division in the country and so very little national unity.
This situation severely hampers efforts to move forward until the process of reconciliation and subsequent social harmony prevails.
Since 1991 there has been 15 major national and an uncountable number of regional and clan reconciliation conferences, but many issues still remain unresolved.
The Foundation plans to initially concentrate its efforts in the area of reconciliation and as such has designed a number of initiatives to this end..
Over the next 5 years the Foundation will deliver the following social harmony/reconciliation programs: -.
• Samadoon Foundation Diaspora Conferences (Road Shows).
• Samadoon Foundation Diaspora Volunteer Recruitment Drives.
• Social Harmony/Reconciliation Facilitator Training Programs.
• Samadoon Foundation Social Harmony Centres.
• Samadoon Foundation National Social Harmony Conferences & Workshops.
However, the main push for the Foundation is the establishment of 5 Social Harmony Centres in each of the following towns/cities: - Mogadishu, Kismayo, Baidab, Garrowe and Hargeysa, between September 2015 and January 2016.
There will be 4 more Centres in Kismayo, Baidab, Garrowe and Hargeysa by the end of 2017.
The Centres will be steered by a local non-governmental leadership committee, consisting of local elders, local religious scholars and local professionals.
To assist the leadership committee, Samadoon Foundation staff and/or volunteers will provide support and facilitation for the activities the committee embark upon.
The name difference between previous NGOs’ efforts and this proposed initiative is that this is a grassroots bottom up approach that empowers local people to find local solutions to their problems rather than a top down one telling them what must be done.

The idea of establishing a charitable foundation was born when the Former Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed met with a group of Somali scholars, entrepreneurs and prominent elders at Boston University’s African Presidential Centre, with a view to addressing the multi-faceted problems in Somalia.
These conversations, which continued for a number of months, focused on three key elements of post-conflict nation-building in Somalia, namely: reconciliation/ conflict resolution, health and education.

Moreover, since leaving office, President Sharif also met with comprehensive members of the Somali Diaspora in many countries, who earnestly entreated and encouraged the President to use his influence to rally the nation for the attainment of a reconciliation/ conflict resolution, peace-building, reconstruction and the provision of universal basic health care and primary education.
As a result, President Sharif initiated wide-ranging discussions on the subject with intellectuals and friends from Somalia and other parts of the world, which finally resulted in the establishment of a humanitarian voluntary organization - Samadoon Foundation.
