Detailed description is A full-residency, 48-hour MFA program in creative writing at Sam Houston State University.
We’re a new MFA program, launched officially in the fall of 2012, but we’re not new to teaching creative writing in the Department of English graduate program.
For many years, SHSU has offered an MA in English, including workshops in fiction and poetry and courses in editing and publishing, along with the option of a creative thesis, but the beginning of the MFA program deepens the university’s commitment to our creative writing students.
We’re a three-year, 48-hour program, and we seek to balance writing and reading, theory and practice, criticism and encouragement.
More than anything, we desire to provide a community of writers that will enable you to grow and thrive and ultimately publish the best work you can produce.
