Because we believe that service to people is illustrative evidence of His spirit in us, we seek to use the blessings of His provision in our lives to minister in His service to all people.

1) What does it cost to be buried at Saluda Rest?.
Saluda Rest is operated as a DONATION ONLY SUPPORTED MINISTRY and is not a for profit business.
Therefore, we have no set prices for services preferring instead to present only our net costs to the responsible party for the particular set of services they desire us to perform.
Our cost statement represents only that, what the actual cost is to us and not overage.
We ask that those that understand our mission to consider the actual market value of our services and please give above our costs so that we can continue to serve all those that need us and turn none away..
Our current (2017) donation request for our basic burial is… $1500.00 which includes:.
a) Pickup of decedent within 50 mile radius of our properties..
b) Utilization of our basic OSB burial container or approved self- supplied container..
c) Transportation of decedent to one (1) service/memorial location within return radius or to our properties for outdoor services..
d) Transportation to, and burial in one of our prepared available locations..
e) Site finishing and plantings.

2) What about PREPAYMENT ?.
We do not take monies in advance of service.
Nor do we have advance payment plans.
We ask that all donations be made according to agreement the day of service.
We strive to keep our costs low enough that prepayment is not necessary.

3) Can I pick a particular burial location? What about Plots?.
We do not sell Plots.
When an individual chooses burial at Saluda Rest Preserve, their remains become part of the actual properties of Saluda Rest by consent.

We operate in a first need, first served basis and usually have several prepared locations available in different areas at any given time.
Because the site location work is very weather dependent it is most often expedient to use a prepared site.
However, family relationship proximity and personal site selection preference are important considerations to us, we strive to place sites, when possible, in the location preferred by the individual.
Of course the extra cost involved in any special arrangements will be reflected in the specific donation request..

4) What about a (Coffin, Casket, Shroud, Container) ?.
All burial materials must be approved by Saluda Rest and be reasonably decompositional.
We do not allow or use vaults, metal caskets or liners in the burial process.
We highly recommend that, if possible, the family or friends of the decedent build a container themselves or consider purchasing one from outside sources such as one of our recommended skilled craftsmen.

Saluda Rest offers a variety of burial container options at our location.
We have a small sawmill on site that we use to craft unique one of a kind art type containers for suggested donations.
We also offer our standard basic OSB construction containers included in our basic service that can be painted and customized by the family.
A wide variety of options are acceptable in our service and Saluda Rest will assist in advising and utilizing methods suitable to the family’s desires..

5) How do you handle Memorial Services?.
Our role is one of facilitator for the family.
Planning for any memorial is the sole responsibility of the family.
We can provide transportation to a memorial location or provide clerical services at our location..
Our primary motivation for the burial work we perform is the propagation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As such we seek the permission of family to minister at any memorial service or graveside during the burial process.
We welcome and invite any clergy or speakers the family desires in priority.
In short you can have whatever memorial services you desire and plan..

6) Do you work with Funeral Homes?.
Yes.
We will work with any funeral director you might desire to explain our requirements, restrictions, and procedures.
However, no Funeral Director or Funeral Home is needed for us to perform burial services if the person responsible for the decedent assumes responsibility for the filing of the death certificate and burial transport permit.
Saluda Rest can assist you and provide instruction in these simple paperwork issues..

7) What about viewings?.
Because we do not embalm laws prevent open viewings.
We do not facilitate viewings.
We only offer closed container memorial transportation.
Some (few) funeral directors offer environmentally friendly embalming that will work within our requirements and we can work with them to meet the need of the family..

8) What about the Paperwork?.
This is an area of needless stress for many people..
a) The person assuming control of the decedent’s remains (you) is responsible for the filing of the Death Certificate with The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DEHEC).

This is a simple but legally required procedure with substantial penalties for non-compliance.
Saluda Rest cannot do this for you but can provide a step by step DEHEC instruction sheet for aiding you in this procedure..
b) You will also be responsible for signing the Burial Transport Permit, a Coroner’s document that releases the holding facility and allows Saluda Rest to transport the decedent..
c) You will need to sign a Saluda Rest Legal Representative document to authorize burial at Saluda Rest..
That is all the paperwork required for burial at Saluda Rest..

9) What about grave visitation?.
We welcome visitation to our properties during daylight hours.
Same day or advance notification by phone is required for access and gate codes.
We have many trails and lots of river frontage that make for an enjoyable outing.

10) Who takes care of the grave sites?.
** Saluda Rest is NOT a “perpetual care” facility**.
All of the properties of Saluda Rest are a natural preserve burial ground.
Our goal is to create and steward them as sustainable, productive, forested, green space.
As burials fill areas being rehabilitated, those areas are allowed to return to forested space.
Basic access in those areas is maintained until plantings are established and markers installed.
We give wide discretion to families in the care and appearance of the actual burial sites.
Weeding, native planting, marker placement are all within the discretion of Saluda Rest but wide deference is given to family in matters of immediate site maintenance and appearance.
