Detailed description is Paddle Sport Coaching Jason Rusu will be launching Rusu Paddlesport Coaching in Summer 2017 to provide paddle skills improvement clinics and coaching to adult paddlers (novice to expert) in the Nelson area.

Jason is an NCCP Level 3 Certified coach with over 20 years of coaching experience.
Jason has competed in Sprint Racing Kayak and Canoe for over 30 years and has raced at the international level and represented Canada at the 1992 Olympics.

Adult Paddlers who are interested in improving their paddle stroke efficiency and boat handling skills will benefit greatly from the knowledge and expertise Jason is able to share.
Sessions typically will be individually.

Clinics will provide coaching and feedback on the following paddle-sport components:.

1) Water Safety .
a) launching and landing.
b) self and assisted rescue and recovery.
c) water re-entry, weather and water conditions.
2) Boat set up, equipment basics and positioning.
3) Balance and Strength.
4) Introduction to stroke mechanics.
5) Stroke Mechanics.
6) Boat handling.
7) Training and racing tips.

-ICF Sprint/Marathon Kayak and Canoe.
-Surf-ski.

Participant pre-requisites:.
1) Tread water for 1 minute.
2) Previous season of paddling experience.
3) Recommended Clothing:.

Secure wet footwear, if you don’t have booties or watershoes then wear something like running shoes that you don’t mind getting wet..

A non-cotton toque if it’s chilly, or brimmed hat if it’s sunny..

Sunscreen..

Sunglasses with strap.
If you wear prescription glasses we also recommend using a strap..

Insulating long sleeved non-cotton top and bottoms which will keep you warm even if they get wet..

Wetsuits and paddling tops are recommended in April and early May for Novice paddlers.

In 2017 participants are encouraged to provide their own boat and paddle for each session.
Paddlers who do not have their own equipment, a stable surf ski and paddle is available for rent from Rusu Paddlesport.
PFD's are also available for the session if participants do not have their own..

First time participants can expect an emphasis on the above session components 1-4 and subsequent sessions will focus on developing skills associated with components 5 - 7..

Two 90 minute sessions minimum with an emphasis on surfski basics, .
safety and elementary stroke mechanics..

Six 90 minute sessions includes introduction to surfski basics with.
subsequent sessions focusing on intermediate stroke mechanics and.
