Richard Layne Adventurer, Author & Photographer

621 Madison Ave

Lewis-and-clark,

Montana,United-states - 59601

Detailed description is Author of the book Inaccessible, I am an adventurer/photographer.
Presently I am preparing for a solo winter trip along the Continental Divide in Montana.
Incorporating experience, equipment, and physical training, I travel in Montana and Idaho’s backcountry primarily during the winter.
It is my belief that winter is the time of the true wilderness, and based on how many people I have seen during these trips, apparently the public agrees.
Since 1994, I have encountered three other travelers, who were together on an overnight trip in Montana’s Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness..
During the winters of 2014 through approximately 2017, I am traveling along the Continental Divide in Montana.
The length of the trip between the Wyoming and Canadian borders is 990 miles..
From the Wyoming border to Chief Joseph Pass, Idaho and Montana share approximately 330 miles of the Continental Divide.
During the winter of 2015, using primarily snowshoes and some climbing gear, I will attempt to complete this section.
I will also try to complete an additional 130 miles that encompasses the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness.
The total distance is 460 miles and has a time frame of 90 to 107 days.
I will be alone..
During the winter of 2016, I will attempt to complete the next 390 miles, which will bring me to the southern edge of Glacier National Park at Marias Pass.
During the final year, I will attempt to travel from the southeast to the northwest corner of Glacier National Park.
Located in the Northwest area of the park is Mount Custer (8883 feet).
I plan to touch the Canadian border 1 ½ miles north of this peak before traveling south to Polebridge to complete the trip..
However, before beginning this trip, in 2011 I traveled in Glacier National Park in an area called Hole in the Wall, located in the northwest corner of the park.
The purpose of the trip was to ascertain whether I could travel through that area as I neared the end of the Continental Divide trip.
Park personnel informed me that this high mountain cirque was inaccessible, that no one had ever entered it during the winter.
Although it took four trips and nearly took my life at least twice, I did gain access, thereby creating a route through the area for the Continental Divide trip.
I now face having to repeat this terrifying access as I near the end of the already perilous Continental Divide trip..
Quite unexpectedly, out of the 2011 winter trips came the book, Inaccessible.
Today a lump forms in my throat with the realization that the book could be my long worded epitaph..
