Since its inception in 1996, Red Ribbon Project (RRP) has served Eagle County as a nonprofit with a focus of HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and education.
Since then, the organization has evolved to fill a very important niche in this beautiful resort community, which would otherwise be overlooked.
Not only does RRP strive to empower the community to reduce teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, but under that umbrella lies an indiscriminate list of issues facing our youth.
Over the years, we have built meaningful relationships with the school district, health agencies and youth serving organizations allowing us to maximize our comprehensive programming with youth..
Currently, our mission statement is “we promote healthier lives by empowering the community to reduce teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections”.
RRP realizes the importance of the emotional well-being of adolescents and uses this premise to drive our programs.
We strive to strengthen our local youth by building resilience and skills to improve behaviors.
Most recently, our Youth Skills Building (YSB) program has evolved to develop students' skills at decision-making, self-awareness, and conducting healthy relationships all of which brings awareness to issues such as violence, aggressive behavior and substance abuse.
We utilize our classes as an opportunity to promote and support positive behaviors, to teach coping skills, and to target behaviors that can affect adolescents’ emotional health.
We want to help raise kids who are responsible, productive, employable members of our community..
There is a pressing need to address harassment, bullying and relationship violence in our schools, which has a significant impact on a student's emotional and physical well-being, as well as on academic success.
By promoting the empowerment of youth with our programs, RRP is decreasing or eliminating the likelihood of youth engaging in unhealthy and harmful behaviors.
Our programs also encourages skills and strategies to make better choices and live more productive lives.
We encourage kids to pursue things they love to do, such as skiing, snowboarding, bike riding, martial arts, dance, music, writing, organized sports, yoga, and other healthy activities – instead of risky behaviors such as substance abuse.
Overall, it is not only our goal that teen pregnancy rates will decrease in Eagle County, but also that fewer youth will show signs of addiction and substance use and abuse, incarcerations will decrease amongst our youth, with the long term hopes of building a healthier community.
