Detailed description is Teaching students of all ages in Queenstown! Based at the Kip McGrath Centre in Gorge Road we are also available to teach in local schools.
At Queenstown Robotics we provide 80 minute sessions in small groups with a qualified and experienced teacher.
Sessions are fun, interactive and hands-on, and enable students to design, build and programme robots! .

Courses are suitable for students from ages 7-8 upwards and no prior experience is necessary.
The starting point for beginners is to make LED ‘traffic lights’, using the PICAXE microcontroller (see http://www.picaxe.com/What-Is-PICAXE) which we can then activate using switches, light sensors and remote-control.
Then we move onto robots which can drive around, follow lines and operate using remote control.
We also include an introduction to Scratch programming as this is a great way to reinforce basic ideas in programming and can easily be used at home.

For more advanced students with previous experience we move students onto larger PICAXE robots plus Arduino, mBot, AppInventor and the Raspberry Pi.
Robotics teaches programming skills, basic maths, logical thinking and problem solving skills, which benefits their studies across the school curriculum.
All courses are run by Martin Wightman, who has taught Electronics since he became a teacher in 1996..

Sessions at Queenstown Robotics are based on a standard Kip McGrath session.
I.e 80 minute sessions with a qualified and experienced classroom teacher.
The maximum group size is 4 students although we often keep this to 3 for Robotics.
Sessions are $55 each, the same as for Maths/English at Kip McGrath.
Enrolment is usually per term, but we always offer this on a ‘trial’ basis as it may be new for many students.
However, we have never had a student that couldn’t wait to carry on after the first session! .

We are frequently introducing new session times to cope with the increasing demand.
We currently have sessions running throughout the week from Monday to Saturday - please call or email for current availability!.

The current spaces we have available are on Monday from 5.10 to 6.30.
