Detailed description is Providence Baptist Church was organized in 1854 with only twelve members.
The first deacons were Mr.
Raleigh C.
Horton and Mr.
Thomas Jones.
The first building was a log structure which was bought and moved to Providence.
Raleigh Horton donated three acres of land for the church.
In 1864, a boxed house was erected..

From the beginning up until 1862, one-fourth time services were held.
During the Civil War, no services were held because very few men, except the old men, were left.
In 1864, John Crook was called as pastor.
The membership grew, so it was necessary to build a larger building.
It was started about 1891 and completed in 1898.
Since the Civil War, the church has not been without a pastor, except for the short periods of time when the church was in the process of securing one.
In 1933, the church moved across the road into a new brick building.
It had been located in what is now the south end of the cemetery.
The brick building was eleven years old when it burned in 1944, and the present church building was erected.
At this time, services were changed from one-fourth to one-half time, and in 1957, the church went full time.
In 1966, the church baptistry was completed.
Prior to this, the outdoor baptistry was used.
It was located down the trail by the spring.
The spring still fills the concrete pool with cool, clear water.
