Mehmet Görmez'in resmî facebook sayfasıdır..Mehmet Görmez, 1959 yılında Gaziantep'in Nizip ilçesinde doğdu.
İlköğrenimini Nizip'te, ortaöğrenimini ise Gaziantep İmam Hatip Lisesi'nde tamamladı.[1] 1983 yılında girdiği Ankara Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi bölümünü 1987 yılında bitirdi.
Aynı yıl Temel İslâm Bilimleri Bölümü Hadis Anabilim Dalında yüksek lisansa başladı.
1988'de Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı'nın tahsis ettiği bursla bir yıl süreyle Kahire Üniversitesi'nde inceleme ve araştırmalarda bulundu..
1990'da başladığı doktorasını 1995'te Sünnet ve Hadisin Anlaşılması ve Yorumlanmasında Metodoloji Sorunu adlı teziyle tamamladı.
1995-1997 yılları arasında Kazikistan'daki Ahmet Yesevi Üniversitesi'nin ilahiyat fakültesinde görev yaptı.
Görmez, 1998'de yardımcı doçent, 1999'da ise doçent oldu.[1] 2001-2003 yıllarında Hacettepe Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi'nde dersler verdi.
Ankara Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi öğretim üyesi iken 13 Ağustos 2003'te Diyanet İşleri Başkan Yardımcılığı görevine getirildi..
2006 yılında profesör unvanı alan Mehmet Görmez, 11 Kasım 2010'da Ali Bardakoğlu'nun kendi isteğiyle görevinden ayrılmasından sonra Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı'na atandı..
Evli ve üç çocuk babası olup, Arapça ve İngilizce bilen Mehmet Görmez'in yayımlanmış birçok eseri vardır.
