It is right next to the Rio Penasco which runs year round with spring water.
He and his neighbors cut trenches, hand dug ditches and installed flumes for several miles to be sure of an adequate water supply for his fields and orchards.
For many years he used a horse team for plowing even after many other folks were going to tractors.
His plow and harrow are still here on the ranch as well as some of the huge ponderosa stumps from the trees he used to build the ranch house.
He was born in Mayhill and died in the house he built in the valley that he lived in his whole life.
