Detailed description is A 3-year MFA program that combines individual research, group work, and experiential learning through progressive, immersive pedagogy.
PSU’s Art and Social Practice MFA is composed of a unique combination of individual research, group work, and experiential learning.
The program’s blend of critical and professional practice, collaborative social engagement, and transdisciplinary exploration produces an immersive educational environment.
Based in Portland, Oregon, the program operates on the PSU campus, and in our space at the King School in Northeast Portland.
The program’s Flexible Residency model allows for travel and even the ability for students to reside outside of Portland during their course of study.
A weekly conversation series promotes the understanding of a wide range of approaches and methodologies..

FIELD WORK is an initiative of Portland State University’s Art and Social Practice MFA program.
It creates a platform for socially engaged projects that promote public scholarship, lectures, exhibitions, workshops as well as additional programming that creates meaningful exchange between artists and the surrounding communities.
Located in a former downtown storefront space, FIELD WORK allows creative explorations to develop out of a visible location that can serve as the site for interaction and collaboration with multiple publics.
This space reflects Portland State University’s commitment to community engagement.
FIELD WORK currently hosts a permanent classroom and library in its project spaces..
