I got started building Rocket Stoves a couple of years ago when I was having some health problems and needed a project.
You might say that I became obsessed.
Something about that little twig burning stove that did so much with so little fuel just intrigued me.
I built them and tested them and built more all the time realizing that these little wonders, perhaps, held the key to many problems throughout the world..

First of all, these stoves can be extremely efficient.
Using 2/3 less wood than a ground fire, they burn wood so effectively that there is very little waste energy, very low emissions, and the whole process is carbon neutral!.

Second, these stoves burn wood that can be gathered by hand with few, if any tools.
No saws, axes, machetes, etc.
may be needed at all in order to gather fuel for these stoves, in fact, they love "thumb sized" and smaller twigs that can be found just lying on the ground!.

Third, and perhaps most importantly, these stoves can save lives.
Since the emissions, compared to a ground fire, are so much lower, the stoves present a much lower chance of CO poisoning and lung diseases associated with breathing wood smoke, they may reduce the incidence of chronic lung disease.
Also, since these stoves burn "found" wood, they can provide a viable cooking source in disaster and survival situations where boiling drinking water becomes a necessity and just heating a can of soup may be very difficult..

It has been my goal to make these stoves readily available to the general public.
To accomplish this goal, I had to come up with a design that was relatively light, portable, and yet remain totally functional.
In order to accomplish this, I had to abandon some of my most rigid thoughts concerning these stoves and build the most basic stove imaginable.
I would like to say that I did it alone, but that is not the case.
Rocket Stoves are open domain.
You can build them without restriction and there is a huge collaboration through the world regarding these little wonders, so I took my best ideas and some from others to put together what I call the "Porcupine Twig Stove.".

I want to make this stove available to everybody.
I want to see disaster relief agencies have them to donate to victims of disaster.
I want people to have one in storage for when the lights go out.
I want to see people use these stoves when they go trekking in the woods, instead of building a ground fire.
Most importantly, though, I want these stoves in the hands of those unfortunate folks that have no choice but to cook on the ground to survive, after all, it was for these people that Dr.
Larry Winiarski designed the very first Rocket Stoves to begin with..
