PIMPA, è nata dalla fantasia di Altan nel 1975 come protagonista di storie a fumetti che da allora e per vent'anni sono state regolarmente pubblicate tutte le settimane nel Corriere dei Piccoli fino alla chiusura definitiva del giornale..
I primi libri sono stati pubblicati nel 1978.
La rivista mensile PIMPA si pubblica regolarmente dal 1987 agli inizi con l'editore Glénat Italia e poi dal 1994 dall'editore Franco Cosimo Panini..
Pimpa è anche protagonista di tre serie di cartoni animati di 26 episodi di 5 minuti ciascuna..
La prima del 1982 diretta da Osvaldo Cavandoli, prodotta da RAI e Quipos, la seconda diretta da Enzo d'Alò, è stata realizzata in una coproduzione internazionale RAI e Quipos, con Francia e Spagna e la terza nel 2010 con regia e sceneggiatura dello stesso Altan.
Le serie sono state diffuse nelle televisioni di una trentina di paesi.
