Paraat (Wassenaar).
Daar werd hij toen hij 7 jaar was gescout voor de jeugdopleiding bij Feyenoord.

In de jeugdopleiding bij Feyenoord ontwikkelde hij zich volop en kon elk jaar meespelen in de nationale elftallen.
Hij werd toen getraind door de beste trainers van Nederland (o.a.
Leo Beenhakker, Dick Advocaat, Wim Jansen, Willem van Hanegem, Wiel Coerver, Clemens Westerhof, Jan Mak en Rinus Israël) en kreeg een contract bij Feyenoord aangeboden, waarna hij op 13 november 1985 zijn debuut maakte in de wedstrijd Feyenoord - AZ '67.

Peter Barendse heeft bijna 11 jaar in het betaald voetbal op het hoogste niveau gespeeld.
In deze periode heeft hij naast Feyenoord ook bij S.V.V., Dordrecht '90 en FC Den Bosch gespeeld.

Tijdens al deze wedstrijden heeft hij met diverse grootheden gevoetbald zoals Johan Cruijff, Simon Tahamata, Johnny Rep, Martin van Geel (technisch directeur Feyenoord), Ruud Gullit, Mario Been en Orlando Trustfull.
