A Connecticut native, Paul Sutherland grew up in Wilton, Connecticut.
After spending 25 years of his adult life in Florida, he moved to Ridgefield in 2001 and Danbury in 2016.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the LVA School on Main St.
in Danbury, where he has taught literacy for over 10 years.
His Brazilian-American wife, Irene, and he moved to Danbury “because of its diversity and potential for economic growth.”.

Sutherland has over 30 years of corporate financial experience, including 20 years with FPL Group (now NextEra Energy) and its principal operating subsidiary, Florida Power and Light Company.
While there, he worked in budgeting, accounting, financial systems and corporate finance, holding positions of Director of Finance for Energy Marketing & Trading, and Assistant Treasurer of FPL Group and its utility subsidiary.
He is currently Senior Advisor with Saber Partners, LLC, a small Wall Street firm providing specialized financial consulting services to issuers of AAA-rated debt..

Sutherland was elected to the Ridgefield Board of Education in 2007.
On the Negotiating Committee of the BOE, he championed the move to health savings accounts as a way to maintain employee health benefits while controlling spiraling healthcare costs.

In 2011, he was elected to the Board of Finance, serving as vice-chairman from 2011-2014.

For the past 8 years, I have been employed by the State of Connecticut as an Examiner Specialist for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
In the entrepreneurial spirit, I also own and operate a Bail Bonds and a Sports and Entertainment company here in Danbury.
I understand the challenges and rewards of being a small business owner and the impact such businesses have on our local economy..
Throughout my adult life, I have been giving back to our community by working to aid the young and older alike to promote and ensure a better City for all of us.
