Detailed description is The Patricia Luxton National Nature Reserve consists of the former Chartres Horse Paddock, a pristine area containing many endemic and rare plant species.
The Reserve consists of the original Chartres Horse Paddock and is about 2300 acres.
Its has probably never been grazed by sheep and certainly not for the past one hundred years.
Hence it has many endemic and rare plants that usually do not survive grazing by sheep.

It was the wish of the late Pat Luxton that it should be preserved in its present state and that it should be available for everyone to enjoy freely in the future.
Bill and Stephen have carried this wish forward..
There is a notice board at each entrance to the Reserve, beautifully designed by Ben and Clare Cockwell and funded by the FIG Environmental Studies budget, giving lots of information about what may be found there..
Just off the road is the Millenium picnic and camping area -signs point to this.
This was named because of the Millenium Party held there on the 31st Dec 1999 which was attended by almost the entire population of West Falkland as well as many other visitors..
Anyone is free to use the camp site and to roam over the Reserve but you are asked to stick to the track indicated with vehicles.
Please please - no smoking or fires and take any empties away with you! No wildlife may be taken either..
