It was an extremely warm September desert day in the year 1984, when the opening of the first phase took place at Outdoors Resorts of America.

There were 131 lots ready for occupancy at that time, and these lots sold raidly to the active adults who found this special and unique location in the Coachella Valley desert.

The first clubhouse and the completion of the first 9 hole golf course followed in 1985, with phase two completed soon afterwards.
Phases three and four followed in 1986 and in 1987 phase five and six were built along with 9 additional holes of golf.
At that time, the resort boasted 27 holes of golf, 14 tennis courts, 6 satellite stations, complete with laundry facilities, swimming pools and spas, and large restrooms.
The two premium clubhouse complexes also have swimming pools and spas, and the clubhouse pool at El Saguaro has an Olympic sized lap pool.
A first class exercise and health club area is housed in La Palma clubhouse.
