For all of us who played Maryland Junior Lacrosse program in the 60's and 70's, two men, Thomas Nuttle and Elmer Wingate - were our coaches, and our role models.
It was a story of how we learned to play lacrosse...
and, how we learned to become men.

As Andy Murr wrote (MD Jr's 1971), "there we were: cocksure, unobservant, basically clueless but full of energy.
And there were Coach Wingate and Coach Nuttle, showing again and again how to persevere, hone skills, give up the ball, get that back hand down on ground balls, back up your teammates, win gracefully.
In other words, how to build the life skills of hard work, technique, generosity and good fellowship.

At MD Juniors, the coaches dug deeply into our minds on the very limited basis of one two-hour practice and one game a week.
