โรงเรียนหนองไผ่ ได้รับอนุญาตจากกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ให้เปิดทำการสอนเมื่อปีการศึกษา 2507 เป็นโรงเรียนสหศึกษา ทั้งนี้มีสาเหตุเนื่องในปีการศึกษา 2506 นักเรียนที่จบการศึกษาชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 7 ของอำเภอหนองไผ่ ไม่มีโรงเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาที่จะศึกษาต่อภายในอำเภอ การเดินทางไปศึกษาต่อที่อำเภอเมืองมีระยะทางไกลมาก การคมนาคมไม่สะดวก ผู้ปกครองนักเรียนจำนวนหนึ่งได้ทำหนังสือไปที่อำเภอหนองไผ่ เพื่อขอให้ทำเรื่องขออนุญาตเปิดโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาในปีการศึกษา 2507 โดยมีเงื่อนไขว่าอำเภอหนองไผ่จะต้องจัดหาที่ดินจำนวนไม่น้อยกว่า 35 ไร่ และจะต้องมีอาคารเรียนชั่วคราว ซึ่งอำเภอหนองไผ่ได้ดำเนินการตามเงื่อนไขทั้ง 2 ประการได้สำเร็จ ได้จัดสรรที่ดินสำหรับจัดตั้งโรงเรียนเนื้อที่ 80 ไร่ ซึ่งเป็นที่สงวนของกระทรวงมหาดไทย สงวนไว้สำหรับตั้งสถานที่ราชการของอำเภอหนองไผ่.

สำหรับอาคารเรียน พ่อค้า ประชาชน และข้าราชการ ร่วมกันจัดงานวันครู ( 15 - 17 มกราคม 2507 ) เพื่อหารายได้เป็นค่าใช้จ่ายในการก่อสร้าง และดำเนินการก่อสร้างอาคารไม้ชั้นเดียว 4 ห้องเรียน กรมสามัญศึกษา ( กรมวิสามัญเดิม ) แต่งตั้งให้นายชนินทร์ สุพลวิชิต ครูโรงเรียนเพชรพิยาคม อำเภอเมืองเพชรบูรณ์ จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ ดำรงตำแหน่งครูใหญ่ในโรงเรียนหนองไผ่ และบรรจุแต่งตั้ง นายธีรรัตน์ กิจจารักษ์ วุฒิ กศ.บ.
ดำรงตำแหน่งครูตรีโรงเรียนหนองไผ่อีก 1 คน.

โรงเรียนหนองไผ่ ได้ขยายเป็นโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาขนาดกลาง และขนาดใหญ่เป็นลำดับ นายชนินทร์ สุพลวิชิต ครูใหญ่นั้น ได้รับการแต่งตั้งให้เป็นอาจารย์และเป็นผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนหนองไผ่ ในปีการศึกษา 2525 และปีการศึกษา 2527 ตามลำดับ เมื่อโรงเรียนหนองไผ่มีอายุการก่อตั้งครบ 20 ปี คณะศิษย์เก่าและครู - อาจารย์ โรงเรียนหนองไผ่ ได้จัดหาทุนตั้งมูลนิธิ " อาจารย์ชนินทร์ สุพลพิชิต " เพื่อนำดอกผลเป็นการศึกษาแก่นักเรียนโรงเรียนหนองไผ่สืบไป.
