New River Valley Mall opened for business in 1988.
In 2001, the shopping center underwent a minor renovation, which included new bathrooms, family restroom, conversion of the Food Court into small shops, and the addition of vestibules in the theater area entranceway.
In 2006, New River Valley Mall began an extensive renovation, which included new tile, entranceways, soft seating areas, and updated lighting.
In 2007, Regal Cinemas moved out of the center into a freestanding theater on the mall's parking lot near Dick's Sporting Goods.
New River Community College opened in the theater's former location in August 2007 with over 900 students enrolled.
New River valley mall also welcomed a new Food Court in November of 2007.
New River Center, a 157,000 square foot Power Center located next to the mall is home to several of the nation's most popular Big Box retailers including Old Navy, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond and others.
