Built in the late fifties, it was the home of Gellong Netuk lama, executive counsellor to the Chogyal, Sir Tashi Namgyal and later his son, Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal and one of Sikkim's affluent and prominent politicians..

However during the early nineties an old family friend Mr Sherap Thenduf-la better known as the proprietor of the Windamere hotel in Darjeeling, suggested opening up the family home to visitors who wanted to experience Sikkimmese life style.
