Women living in abusive situations in the rural and farm communities in South Simcoe County face many barriers to leaving the violence in their lives including: isolation from community supports, lack of transportation, and high rent.
These women have often experienced physical, emotional,religious, financial, verbal and sexual abuse within their intimate relationships.
Their children may have experienced trauma from the domestic violence they have witnessed in the home.

“My Sister’s Place” provides safe refuge to women and their children who are fleeing abusive relationships or looking for guidance, or counsel.
"My Sister’s Place” serves over 1,000 women (and their children) annually in both our residential and non-residential services.
In the shelter, staff offer crisis counseling, emergency transportation support, referrals to other community services, and legal and housing support to women and their children.
Our Outreach/Legal Advocate travels throughout the South Simcoe County area to provide these same confidential services to women and their children who choose to remain in their rural communities.
