Detailed description is Le musée d’art moderne et contemporain, abrégé en « Mamco », est un musée d’art contemporain de Suisse.Le Mamco dispose d'une surface d'exposition de et fonde son travail sur une collection de œuvres, dont plus d'un tiers lui appartiennent.
Depuis son ouverture en 1994, le musée a présenté plus de 450 expositions, rendant ainsi compte de la diversité et du dynamisme de la scène artistique suisse et internationale.
De grandes rétrospectives sont régulièrement proposées, comme celles consacrées à Martin Kippenberger, Jim Shaw ou à Sylvie Fleury.Trois fois par an, le Mamco présente un nouveau moment de sa construction permanente.
Ce mouvement continu se subdivise en séquences de deux à trois ans, dont les intitulés indiquent la tonalité générale de sa réflexion et de ses objectifs : Rudiments d'un musée possible (1994-1997), Patchwork in Progress (1997-1999), Vivement 2002 ! (1999-2002), Rien ne presse/Slow and Steady/Festina Lente (2002-2004), Mille et trois plateaux (2004-2006), Rolywholyover (2007-2009), Futur Antérieur (2009-2010), L'éternel détour (2011-2013) et Des histoires sans fin (2013-2016).
En juin 2016 s'est ouvert Récit d'un temps court.HistoriqueL'Association des Amis du MamcoEn 1973, l'Amam fut créée avec le projet partagé de faire naître un musée d'art moderne et contemporain à Genève.
Après vingt ans d'efforts, l'association réussit à convaincre les autorités de la ville de mettre à disposition un immeuble pour le musée et, grâce à sept donateurs privés, les fonds nécessaires furent réunis.
