In 2008 "Music on the Square" was an idea to promote an exhibit from the .
Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
The Little Court House Museum in Bolivar, TN and the Hardeman County Chapter of the Association of Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) were sponsoring the exhibit called "New Harmonies ~ Celebrating America Roots Music." The idea was to have free concerts on the town square every Friday night for one month to promote the exhibit.
The idea was so successful that the city and DevCo ask them to keep doing all summer.
APTA did and "Music on the Square" was started..

Bolivar Downtown Development Corporation (DevCo) founded in 2007, was the recipient of a grant awarded to Bolivar for downtown revitalization.
Under this grant, the state also returns a portion of sales tax generated from downtown retail business to the city of Bolivar.
Through these sales tax reimbursements, DevCo is able to make restorations and revitalization.
"DevCo’s goal is to revitalize historic downtown Bolivar, promote businesses, and allow them to thrive while keeping historic value," said DevCo’s Chief Operating Officer, Jerry Watkins..

Early in 2009 a committee, "The Hardeman County Music Commission" was formed and working together, we hope to continue bringing good music and entertainment to Bolivar and Hardeman, TN.
Sometimes a good idea can grow into a great idea, as we are starting our 9th year (2016) for "Music on the Square." So we hope to see you there … at "Music on the Square" every Friday night April thought October.
